New Lead Instructors for Approved Providers

L-381

In lieu of an agency sponsored formal evaluation teams conducting on-site evaluations for each new lead instructor, currently approved providers of 300 level L-courses may complete the following self-certification process prior to assigning new personnel in a lead instructor role.

  • Providers shall submit a plan that establishes the protocol by which that Provider will evaluate and certify individuals they desire to serve as lead instructors. This plan shall be submitted to the Course Evaluation Advisor for the NWCG TWT Leadership Committee.
  • Prior to utilizing a new lead instructor, the Provider will submit a resume or bio-sketch for the desired new lead instructor combined with supporting documentation of the individual's performance ratings. This documentation should clearly demonstrate that the desired new lead instructor has met the Provider's established evaluation and certification protocol. This documentation shall be submitted to the Course Evaluation Advisor for the NWCG TWT Leadership Committee.
  • The Course Evaluation Advisor will use the resume, supporting documentation, and discussions with the Provider to make a determination on the final approval regarding the Provider's desired new lead instructor. Providers should obtain the final approval from the Course Evaluation Advisor prior to utilizing a new lead instructor in that role.
  • The Course Evaluation Advisor will place an emphasis on approving lead instructors with a demonstrated understanding of the intent behind the entire NWCG Leadership Curriculum and a demonstrated knowledge of the current issues affecting wildland fire management personnel that would be taking the course.
  • The names of all approved lead instructors will be posted on the NWCG TWT Leadership Committee website. Click here for L-380. Click here for L-381.
  • Providers will continue to conduct post-course evaluations for each 300 level L-course they deliver. These post-course evaluations will include dates, location, sponsoring unit, lead instructor name, cadre names, and participant feedback. The post-course evaluations will be given to the sponsoring unit for review immediately following the end of the course.
  • The NWCG TWT Leadership Committee will maintain the prerogative to audit or evaluate any given course or instructor for the purpose of maintaining instructional quality.
