Leadership Tools at LLC More than seven years ago, the Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center (LLC) was established based on the need for a safer work environment with more effective organizational learning processes, and as a means of collecting institutional memory for the entire wildland fire service. The LLC promotes a learning culture and fosters collaboration within all members of the wildland fire service. The NWCG Leadership Subcommittee and the LLC have partnered up in the past on such items as the Conducting Effective After Action Review (AARs) training package. Plans are to continue that collaboration in the near future. Various resources are available on the LLC website for wildland firefighters to use to complete portions of their self-development plan as well as keep up-to-date on lessons learned from the field. For more information about LLC, Time to Sharpen the "Tools" In March 2010, the NWCG Leadership Subcommittee met in Tucson, Arizona. One of the Subcommittee meeting goals was to update elements of the Wildland Fire Leadership Development Program (WFLDP) "Toolbox." Work group participants teamed up to revise the following tools:
Self-Development Preview: Adoption of an Individual Development Plan (IDP) Guide, creation for Self Development Plan Worksheets (by leader type), clear self development objectives/goals for each leadership level, and words/phrases that when "clicked" take individuals to web-based "support" sites. The information available on the updated web page can be used by anyone for their personal self development or to augment (not replace) agency IDPs. The intent is to provide wildland fire service employees the opportunity to quickly download self-development plan resources that are easy to understand and implement.
