The courses listed below provide wildland firefighters who are unable to attend formal wildland fire leadership courses a means to participate in a self-paced form of leadership development. There are no equivalencies between these courses and the formal wildland leadership curriculum.

Fire Service Supervision (Q0318)

This 13-hour self-study course aims to give supervisors in the fire service some fundamental notions and attitudes on stress management, time management, interpersonal communications, motivation, counseling, conflict resolution, and group dynamics. The course relies heavily on learning activities embedded throughout the text to encourage the learner to be involved actively with the content, not just read the text from cover to cover and take a final exam. Effective Communication (IS-242.A)

This 8-hour self-study course is designed to improve your communication skills. It addresses basic communication skills, how to communicate in an emergency, how to identify community-specific communication issues, using technology as a communication tool, effective oral communication, and how to prepare an oral presentation. Decision Making and Problem Solving (IS-241.A)

This 8-hour self-study course is designed to improve your decision-making skills. It addresses the decision-making process, decision-making styles, attributes of an effective decision maker, and ethical decision making and problem solving. (Emergency Management Institute)

Leadership and Influence (IS-240.A)
