"Written visions, missions, and goals are not as important as knowing what you're supposed to do when you show up in the morning."
-Richard Moran, Never Confuse a Memo with Reality

1. Place one person, on the crew or unit, in charge of training.

  • Allows for clear documentation of training and Position Task Book status
  • Everyone's training and assignment needs can be easily accessed at home or on the road
  • Ensures task books are properly initiated and certified

2. Send your training coordinator to S-445, Training Coordinator, to better understand the Position Task Book system and how it relates to your employees on the home unit or on fire assignments.

3. Develop a flow chart of ICS positions and relate that to an employee's Individual Development Plan so they can see the logical progression and an approximate timeline.

4. Whenever possible send a trainee along with a fully qualified individual being dispatched from the home unit.
