The Blackwater Canyon is a tributary to the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The canyon is mostly oriented North/South, with the high country at the southern end of the range. The elevation ranges from 6200 ft. to 11,096 ft. with canyon walls rising to rims of decomposing granite. The local winds are out of the Southwest; any frontal passages would produce your typical wind shift patterns.
